LO1: P1 & M1 - Be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief

I created a mindmap of ideas which could potentially be developed into a film trailer. Film trailers are an effective way to promote a film as they are created to advertise a film that will be released in the near future by engaging an audience. This engagement is a strength of a film trailer as it creates a “hype” around a film that is going to be released which will subsequently create more profit for the film as it is in place to sell the film to the audience.
However, film trailers may not get the exposure to an audience that is needed to create a large profit for an organisation. The cinema is one of the main places that film trailers are shown to an audience, and although they are placed in front of films which are most likely to be viewed by the same demographic that the trailer is aimed at, not everyone will like the look of the new, upcoming film. As trailers are generally around two to three minutes long, people will not view a trailer out of pleasure but more to get a glimpse of what a new film is going to look like. Therefore it could sort of act as an informative device.
The film trailer idea that I have come up with is a comedy which follows a group of girls as they go on a girlie holiday to Ibiza. The main demographic is 15 to 25-year-old women as this is the key age that will closely relate to not only the character in the film but also some of the situations that they get into. In the film trailer, I could show off the likeable personalities of the characters as they try and get ready for their girls trip away. By showing key parts of the film and funny one-liners it would make the viewer laugh and want to see the film from the trailer.
As the film will have mature themes throughout it, it would need to have a BBFC rating of at least a 12a. Even though a 12a can be viewed by people under the age of 12, as long as they are accompanied by an adult, meaning that the trailer will get more exposure. People aged 12 and under will probably not relate to, and understand the themes throughout the film meaning that a smaller audience would be encouraged to view it. If a trailer is made well it can encourage large amounts of people to see the film, however, if the film trailer was to give away too many of the key events or funny parts it may actually discourage people from going to see the film. This is something that needs careful consideration when creating a trailer.

This is a mindmap of music video ideas for a local Sheffield band which I could develop into a music video. A music video would be an appropriate choice of media product based on the brief as it promotes the music of/and a band or artist.
